Deccan Herald – PM Modi to inaugurate Shivamogga airport on Monday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Monday inaugurate the Shivamogga Airport. The airport has been named after Kannada litterateur Kuvempu. Modi will also address a public rally at the airport premises. The PM, who will also be the first passenger to use the airport, will land at 12.15 PM by an Air India flight from Chennai. The Prime Minister will be received by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other dignitaries. From the Airport, Modi will reach the venue of the rally by a helicopter. He will unveil the statue of Kuvempu, after which he will address the public gathering. He will then leave for Delhi from Shivamogga Airport.  Shivamogga Airport is the ninth domestic airport in Karnataka. The airport is spread over 662 acres at Sogane village, 12 km from the city of Shivamogga. The airport has a 3,200-metre-long runway, which can handle Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 type of aircraft. The airport also has a terminal building with an area of 4,900 square meters. The terminal building has four check-in counters, two security lanes, and two baggage claim belts. The airport is expected to handle 500 passengers during peak hours. The airport is expected to boost tourism and trade in the region. It will also provide connectivity to the people of Shivamogga and surrounding areas to major cities in India. .
