Riley McCusker Is Glamour’s 2023 College Woman of the Year

Riley McCusker may be one of college sports’ best-kept secrets—unless you’re one of the millions of people who have been following the NCAA gymnastics season with bated breath. The 20-year-old Stanford junior has been one of the most consistent gymnasts in the country all season, leading her team to a No. 4 ranking and a top-three finish at the Pac-12 Championships. Individually, she has won three all-around titles and is ranked inside the top 10 in all four events (vault, bars, beam, and floor). But it’s not just her athletic accomplishments that make McCusker special. She is also a straight-A student and an active member of the Stanford community, volunteering her time at a local hospital and serving as the vice president of the university’s student-athlete advisory committee. In short, she is the epitome of a student-athlete. That’s why Glamour is proud to name Riley McCusker our 2023 College Woman of the Year. McCusker is the first gymnast to receive this honor since Olympian Dominique Dawes was recognized in 1994, and she is just the second Stanford athlete to be named College Woman of the Year, joining soccer star Kelley O’Hara in 2009. McCusker was chosen from a pool of more than 1,000 nominees by a panel of judges that included Glamour editors, past College Women of the Year winners, and representatives from the NCAA and Women Leaders in College Sports.
