Two Officers Were Killed in an Attack on a Swedish Synagogue

Two officers were killed and one was injured on Saturday in an attack on a synagogue in Uppsala, Sweden, the police said, adding that they were investigating whether it was an act of terrorism.

A man was arrested a short time after the incident. Police were not able to provide a clear description of the man, but said he was between 30 and 40 years old.

The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. local time, in one of the residential areas of Uppsala, Sweden. Police surrounded the area and urged residents to stay inside.

The names of the officers killed were not released. Kjell Bergensten, police chief, described one of the officers as “very young,” while the other was a seasoned officer who “had a lot of experience.”

“This is a tragedy. My thoughts are with the victims and their families,” Stefan Lofven, Swedish Prime Minister, said at a press conference.
